I have received the question of, "How did you decide on the career of chiropractic?" a lot throughout my journey of getting to where I am today.  I grew up in the field of healthcare in several aspects; My mother is a part-owner and Occupational Therapist of a rehabilitation clinic. In addition to, I was heavily involved in athletics starting from a young age, which over the years led to several injuries that required rehabilitation. Due to this, I saw the impact healthcare providers have on their patients and community first-hand. Over the years, I explored different medical avenues and continuously revisited Chiropractic. After extensive research and shadowing, I knew this was the medical profession I wanted to pursue.

During my time at Palmer College of Chiropractic, I participated in an 8-month clerkship at the Central Iowa VA Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa. I was selected as 1 of 7 students throughout the country to participate in the program. During the clerkship, I was involved in over 800 patient visits and well over 1000 hours of clinic time over those 8 months. I had the opportunity to observe and work with other medical professionals throughout the hospital including outpatient/inpatient primary care and physical therapists, nutritionists, pain psychologists, clinical pharmacists, acupuncture and more. This experience solidified that healthcare needs to be a team effort. Constant communication between providers allows for the best patient outcomes, in the quickest, yet most appropriate turnaround time. This experience supports my belief of a full-body, holistic and team approach and has shaped me into the chiropractor I am today.
